Using PALAVER into the classroom brings a new level of fun and engagement to your language learning! Adapting PALAVER's mechanics of grammar and vocabulary acquisition from a smaller group to a larger one can be very easy and rewarding. Feel free to experiment with these ideas or come up with your own! We'd love to hear your stories and successes.

  1. Separate the class into smaller groups and give each group the same campaign. See who can come up with the most creative way of solving the problem and vote on who is the best. Winner gets…a unicorn? Sure, why not.

  2. Read a character card aloud to students. Have them brainstorm (in the target language!) what solutions they can come up with to solve that character's problem.

  3. Use the dice for warm up sentences. Whatever number comes up on the dice, that's how many words their sentence/sentences should be. (The only time they'll cheer for rolling a "1"!)

  4. You can play a typical campaign as a larger group! Have 3-5 students create a single character together. Once introduced to all other characters created in the class, those characters can go on an adventure together.

  5. Use Palaver for 5-10 minutes a day in class, or as a reward at the end of the week. Keep track of the story your students are creating! Adding art and music can help solidify concepts and vocabulary. (i.e. singing the words and drawing the words help boost retention.)

  6. More to come!
